How do I get Office07 to work after installing? Didn't Validate?

I purchased Office 2007 and installed. It still doesn't show as a program on
my computer. I assume it validated, I entered the product key when asked to
do so. I was connected to the web during install. It showed a successfull
installation but I still have no desktop Icon nor do I have it on the program
roster of my computer. I am running Vista on a new Toshiba Satellite
A135-S4666 notebook. I called a Micorsoft rep, and they advised I uninstall
the Office 2007 validation for temporary use, then install my paid version of
Office 2007. I did this and still get the same result. I paid $150 for
Office 2007 Home and Student and it is so far a pile of junk. I also hate
the packaging it came in. I wonder who thought of that design. Trendy maybe
but way too much volume for how little is inside and tough to get opened.

I did uninstall the temporary version, then did reinstall my purchased copy.
It goes through all the motions, tells me it successfully installed, but it
does not show as a desktop icon, nor does it show up in the roster of
installed programs. I'm befuddled as to what to do. I've installed a lot of
software over the years, but I've never seen an issue like this before. It's
almost as if it's not getting validated, activated, whatever term applies. I
think that so many processes have been added to installing of purchased
software that it's getting tough to tell just what the problem is when it
doesn't work as intended. How can you tell what's intended? I install the
software, I expect it to run or at least show up as an installed program. I
dunno.

Apparently I have the same issue since I ran the last Microsoft Windows XP
Updates lately. Now I don’t see Office in my Program either. It went through
all the motions as you said.

WWell on advice from someone where I purchased the PC, I put in the recovery
disk, went through all of that, took all night. I then tried to reinstall
Office 2007. I got through the installation. It was successfull as was the
configuration. I then saw a screen that asked me to "validate" I believe it
said. I had the option to do it online or by phone. I selected online. I
think it was a mistake. The progress bar was going then I didn't see it move
but instead saw a message that said the validation was successful.
Evidently, it was not as I still don't have this program on this computer.
I'm getting a bit worked up. It's a $150 piece of junk for about a week now.
I think Microsoft needs to try a little harder with this Vista and Office
2007. Who do I call about a piece of $150 junk? Why does this on line
validation have to take place anyway? You bought it, you have the product
key, why not let it fly like the older versions? We are getting way, way too
many steps involved in some processes that should be simple. I just want to
run office like I did on XP and before that on Win 95. Life is just getting
far too complicated and Micorsoft is not helping much as I see it.

I've installed Office Home/Student 2007 on my desktop it installed corretly
with Office icon on desktop. But when I installed it to my laptop I received
the same issue you all are discussing. No Icon on Desktop! I didn't have any
trial verison installed to laptop. After uninstalling and re-installing
Office 2007 same results. No Icon on the desktop. I'm Running MS-Vista Home
Permium.
