How do I get the envelope icon not to show up when its junk mail?

I have the show envelope icon show up on my tray whenever i receive new mail.
However when it is junk mail, I have a filter for moving it to junk mail
folder, it still shows up as a new email envelope. There doesn;t seem to be
a rule for now showing this envelope. I tried setting a rule that show
message as read, but again still shows an envelope. Any help would be
appreciated.
