how do I highlight/shade alternate rows on calendar

I would like to highlight/shade alternate rows across the entire schedule to
help me connect the schedule bar with the task description.

I'm assuming this is on a Gant Chart? You can't! You can however, add
gridlines across the Calendar part of the Gantt chart to achieve the same
thing. Click Format, Gridlines then select 2 or 3 in the At interval box and
select a line type in the Type drop down list.
