How do I let song continue to play

G

GrHopp

I have a song that starts just three slides before the end and I want the
song to continue to play after the last slide has been shown.

If I tell it to stop after '999' slides the slide show starts over from the
beginning, not what I want. I've checked the "wav runs through it" but no
reference to this issue.

Any ideas?
Thanks,

Greg H.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean that you want the song to keep
playing even after the you have exited the slide show? You can probably
do this if you link to an external application playing the song, but if
PowerPoint is playing the song, then it can only play it as long as the
slide show is going.

Hi David, what I mean is, as the last slide is displayed, I fade to black
while a song is playing. I'd like the song to continue to play while the
last (black) slide is displayed. I would remain in PP the whole time
(everyone would be clapping, the lights would come up, I would be turning
down the volume, etc.)

Thanks for your input.

Have a workaround then.
Add a black background slide at the end.
Then, click Slide Show > Set up Show.
Put a checkmark on Loop continuously until 'Esc'. In this way, the ppt will
not stop the music, while the black background slide will notify you that the
presentation has ended. Does that help?

Thanks for the attempt, but that starts the slide show over again, and since
there is a song on the very first slide a new song starts. I suppose I could
add a dozen or so blank, black slides at the end and see how that looks.

If you do not want a loop, then instead of putting a checkmark at "Loop
continuously until 'Esc'", click Tools > Options > View.
Uncheck End with black slide. (You will immediately exit PowerPoint instead
of seeing the black slide)
Then, manually add a black slide so the music still continues to play.
Is this what you want?

Yes, that will do it I think. In the meantime, I had another solution, which
I carefully typed and promptly lost when my session timed out. Here's
another way to solve the problem:

At slide 67 of 70, the song begins to play. I tell the sound to "Stop
Playing after 4 Slides." Next, I go to the 4th slide (#70) and under Slide
Transition tell it to "Advance Slide On Mouse Click."

This has the net effect of keeping the music playing, on a blackened
background, until the mouse is clicked. Since the show is completely
automated, this is a non-issue.

Problem solved! Thanks for your help

Or you could just leave it in loop continously but on that blank slide at
the end animate the timing before going to the next slide to a large enough
value for your needs.
