How do I make Entourage vX for Mac my default email program?

AAAGH! I'm running Entourage X on Mac 10.3.5, and everytime I click
on an email address, it brings up Apple's vile "Mail" program. How
can I make Entourage my default email program, like it used to be??

Bring up Apple's "vile" Mail program, select Mail->Preferences->General
and enter Entourage (ugh) as the Default Email Reader.

The setting for this is most easily changed using Mail.app.

Mail>Preferences...>General>Default Email Reader

Yes, it is a bit counter-intuitive.

This isn't working for me and I'd love to change it. When I open the mail
program, I don't have "General" as a choice. I only have the following
options:

Accounts
Fonts & Colors
Viewing
Composing
Signatures
Rules

None of these give the option to change my preferences. I have version 1.2.5
of Mail.

Thanks to whoever can solve this!

So I guess you're still running Mac OS X 10.2, Jaguar. In Jaguar, the
default e-mail clients and web browsers can be set in the System
Preferences. Can't tell you the exact location, though, it's been a while
since I last used Jaguar. I do remember that it's the first tab in the
"Internet & Network" row, though. Just try it, it should not be too hard to
find. If not, try using the Mac help.

I don't remember how to do this in Jaguar, but it might be the same. But for
Panther, you can do it in the "vile" Mail program preferences. They removed
it from the System Preferences.

All,

I'm running Office 2004 on System 10.3.9.

I've tried setting the default Email Reader to Entourage in the MAIL General
Preferences - It says it is set to Entourage and shows the little purple
icon. So far so good.

Second, I downloaded RCDefaultApp and again confirmed that Entourage was the
default email app (Same little purple icon, plus Entourage (040913) in
parenthesis.

Still, when I click on a Word document, go to Services -> Mail -> Send File,
it STILL launches Mail, instead of Entourage.

I've seen other posts suggesting to dump specific .plist files. Is this a
potential solution? Simply setting the Mail preference to Entourage DOES
NOT work on my machine (10.3.9).

Befuddled in Redondo

Instead of selecting Entourage from the 'pre-prepared' list, select the
'other' item and vavigate to entourage.

Barry,

Thanks for your help. I've tried this too! The Entourage app is located in
my applications folder, and I go to preferences and choose select, navigate
to my apps folder, to the Microsoft Office folder, and then to the Entourage
App. Still, it doesn't work.

Any chance that its a corrupted .plist file or something of that nature?
Does anyone know if this issue is resolved in Tiger?

The reason it opens in Mail is not because of your default e-mail reader
preference, but simply because services for Mail only work in Mail, and not
any other e-mail application.

In Word, you should instead go to File > Send To > Mail Recipient (as
Attachment) if you want the document to be sent via your default e-mail
reader.

Mickey,

Well that explains it. Thanks. I'm wondering why apple would even created
a "services" menu with the intent on making cross-platform stuff easier to
use if you can't, well, use it! It seems very limited in its functionality.
Not even the "Grab Screen" feature is available from the services menu, and
that's when "GRAB" is an active app!

Yeah, the confusion is "mail" (any generic email application) vs.
"Mail" (one very specific email application).
