How do I number equations in a document using field codes

I wish to number a series of equations in a document and cross reference them
later however, I do not want to have a caption before the equation (i.e. NOT
equation x.x) and wish to include the chapter number in the reference. I also
want the number to appear to the right of the equation, not underneath or
above. Cheers
