How do I PREVENT an HP device from assigning itself as default pri

I recently added a new HP device. I have several printers from various
makers, including HP. The new HP device keeps assigning itself as the
Windows default printer anytime anyone uses it. How do I disable this
particularly annoying "feature"?

Thank you for your note. I can reset the default printer via either the
Properties or the Control Panel. The LexMark is the default, with an HP 5100
and HP 6210 as job-specifc alternates. The HP 6210 is also a
fax-scanner-copier. Anytime a print job is spooled to the 6210, the HP
software reassigns itself as the default Windows printer, essentially
hijacking the rest of the queue. I can be using Word (with the LexMark
printer), use the scanner to grab an image, go back to Word, and suddenly the
print job is on the way to the 6210. Doesn't happen with the (older) 5100,
only the HP 6210.

I don't think this is really an Office question, unless this behavior
happens only with Office applications or something.

I suspect you'll have better luck finding answers if you poke around on the
HP site (it may be a known issue with this machine, for instance)
http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=support and maybe
if you post in an appropriate Windows newsgroup.
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx has
an alpha list of groups on the Web interface.

Oh,
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/solveCategory?dlc=en&lc=en&product=421991&lang=en&cc=us&
even gives you an option to chat with an online HP tech. Cool.
