How do I save a picture embedded in Word as a JPEG?

I receive daily updates from my son's daycare in the form of a Word document
with embedded photos of the daily activities. I have not been able to figure
out how to "unembed" the pictures and save them in a more convenient format
such as a JPEG image. Cutting & pasting produces a "scrap" which is just
another Word document. Anybody???

Open the Word document and "save as" a .html file. Then look in the
folder where you saved the .html file, and you will see a subfolder
containing separate .jpg and .gif files for the images in the original
document.
