How do I set the default format from .bmp to .jpeg in MS Photo ed.

I an a new user to MS Picture Manager and all the files I generate are in
..bmp format which creates huge files. I would like to 'set' the default
format from .bmp to .jpeg. How do I do this?

Save As, ".jpg" the first time and they will remain a jpg during
subsequent edits.
