How do I set up a shortcut to frequently used text in Outlook?

J

Jerry Abel

I use Outlook as my day to day PIM, but still use a good old fashioned dated
notebook in conjunction.

Thus, I often make an entry in the Outlook journal saying something like
"see notebook on today's date" so I can easily find that hand written note in
the future.

Is there a way of setting up a shortcut to give me the text "see notebook on
today's date" (or whatever) to save me repeatedly re typing that phrase?

Thanks,
Jerry.

Roady,

Thanks very much for that, but it means nothing to me! (I'm just a user).
What are Quick Parts and VBA? How would I use them to achieve my text
shortcut?

Jerry.

Are you actually using Outlook 2007 or not? You didn't post that info so I
just gave some suggestions.

Roady - my apologies. It is, indeed, Outlook 2007 (I double checked the
"help - about" thingy).

Thanks.

start a new email and try out the Insert | QuickParts function.

I tried Help | Microsoft Outlook Help "quick parts" and there was nothing
BTW!

Owkee, that makes it a lot easier for the both of us :)

Simply type your text once more and then select it. In the Ribbon select the
Insert tab and press the Quick Parts button and select Save Selection to
Quick Part Gallery.

You can add the Quick Part button to your QAT for easy access by right
clicking on it and choose to add it to the QAT. Saves you an extra click.

That's the result you get for most searches on Word functions when you start
the search in Outlook. I've bugged this some time ago and do see
improvements in my search results though.

My search on "quick parts" resulted in this as the first link;
http://office.microsoft.com/client/...&rt=2&ns=OUTLOOK&lcid=2057&pid=CH100776981033

Search result link;
http://office.microsoft.com/client/...&Query=quick parts&Scope=QZ,HP,HA,RC,FX,XT,TC

The newsgroup probably broke the link so you'll have to reattach it a bit
first instead of directly clicking what's left of it ;-)
