How do I undelete an entire list I mistakenly deleted?

M

Malia

I'm freaked! I meant to delete one contact from a long list, but hit the X
button instead of "remove" and now the entire list is gone! Is there any way
I can get it back? I think I have a backup of my Outlook stuff, but not even
sure how to get just that portion of my contact list. Any ideas?
Thanks so much
Malia

Go to accessories to systym restore put in the day before you deleted it and
it will restore to that point. Darl

Are we to assume that you are referring to a Distribution List? If so,
retrieve it from the Deleted Items Folder.

Hi guys,
Thanks for both replies. Yep, I found out the restore deal didn't work.
And, yes, this is a distribution list I set up with LOTS of names. This just
happened today and just looked in Deleted Items and don't see it. I only see
Deleted Items in the Mail folders, though, not for Contacts. Am I missing
something? I'm pretty bummed about it. I do periodic backups of Outlook
data and can try to figure out how to get it back that way if you can't tell
me some easier way.

If I have to go that route and I find the backup folders, will it overwrite
all the other stuff that's there that's been added since the last backup or
just restore the Distribution List I lost?

It sure would be nice if they made it a bit harder to do something that
drastic - like one of their "are you sure you want to do this" kinda
messages! I really did think I was just deleting that one contact on the
list by pressing the "X" key - not the whole freakin' list! :)

Thanks,
Malia

Open Deleted Items and drag it back to the COntacts folder or click
Edit>Undo Delete.
I think I have a backup of my
Outlook stuff, but not even sure how to get just that portion of my
contact list.

If the backup is a PST, click File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to that
PST, select it, and click OK. Now open the Contacts folder in that set of
folders, select the contacts you wish to restore, click Edit>Copy to Folder,
and specify your default Contacts folder as the destination. When you're
done, you can close the added PST again with right-click>Close on the root
of the PST.

Deleted Items will catch all items you delete from Outlook, including
Contacts and DL's. It would not have been deleted from your Deleted Items
Folder unless you did so (do you empty your Deleted Items automatically on
exit, for example?). If it is not in Deleted Items it is gone for good.
Restoring from backup is simple. Just open the backup file in Outlook and
copy exactly what you need from it. Under no circumstance should you import
this data or try to retrieve it through some Wizard or automated process.
Never trust Microsoft to do something you can do better.

Oh, alrighty then you great guys! I looked again and found the folder in
Deleted Items way down at the bottom (I thought since I had just deleted it,
it would be at the top, but it was in order of when created, back in 2005).
Anyway, thanks SO much for those answers - made my day a LOT brighter!

If you deleted the items from the Deleted Items folder there is no way to
recover them other than from a backup of your data.

The website does not work. If anyone knows how to restore I would appreciate
it.

Website works fine. Chances the solution it offers will work are slim to
none.

Indefinite antecedents are a constant source of confusion with simple text
posts in newsgroups. Best to avoid them.
Anything you deleted inadvertently in Outlook will be in your Deleted Items
Folder. If you deleted it from there, it is gone for good and you will have
to restore from your most recent data backup.
