how do i unlock a document

I guess my computer went haywire. I went to open up and it would let me type
anything. On the bottem of the screen is a little message that says "This
modification is now allowed because the document is locked"

If this problem only occurs with one particular document, then click on
Tools | Unprotect Document. If this problem occurs with all new or
existing documents, then you are experiencing "reduced functionality
mode" because you have not activated Word (click on Help | Activate
Product) or because you have a trial version of Word or Office that has
expired (see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831023 "How to convert a
Office 2003 Trial Edition to a Full Retail Edition").
