How do you add a media player song to powerpoint?

I have a powerpoint presentation and whenever i add the sound i follow the
instructions and when i go to play it, it doesnt play, i close all music
programmes etc and the computer sound is working because previously before i
have been playing music? how do i get the song to play?

One possibility is that the "path" to the file is too long. If it exceeds 128
characters, PowerPoint won't find it. Where have you stored the file? Is it in
My Documents?

Try this: Go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe and click OK. The MCI player
will open. Use the File menu to open your sound file and then click the Play
icon. Does the file play? If so, move your presentation and your sound file to
C:\Test. Then open PowerPoint and open the presentation. Delete the sound file
and then re-insert it, pointing to its new location. Now test the presentation.
Does the music play?
