How do you delete newsgroup emails?

I am unable to delete any newsgroup emails I receive via my pop account
in the newsgroup folder. I am using Office 2004 with OS 10.3.2. Any
suggestions would be appreciated . Not to mention I am still getting double
emails and no suggestions have fixed the problem.. Thanks in advance.

If you're referring to newsgroup postings that you're reading in Entourage,
you can't delete them because they're not really there: at least, not on
your machine. The only time the newsgroup message is downloaded is when you
select it to read it. At that point (I'm a bit fuzzy on how this is
implemented in Entourage), the message is stored in a cache, which is
cleaned after it reaches a certain size.

If you want more control over newsgroups, you should investigate a dedicated
newsgroup reader. The reader that's provided in Entourage is relatively
primitive, designed to allow basic newsgroup reading and filtering. It was
never intended to be a full-blown newsgroup reader.

You can't delete individual news messages - you can only delete all at once.
Control-click (right-click) the news SERVER icon (not the news group icon)
in the Folders list at the left. Select Empty Cache in the contextual menu.

Since all the messages (at least all the messages newer than several months
old) are still on the news server, you can re-download any you want back,
The headers will re-appear when you click on the newsgroup. Press the More
button if you need to get older messages again.

To actually reduce the size of your database, if that's the purpose, you'd
have to do a Compact of the Database (it's called Typical Rebuild in
Entourage X and 2001) after emptying the cache.

Please "Reply To Newsgroup" to reply to this message. Emails will be
ignored.

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.

Newsgroup posts aren't emails, and they come via the server, not your pop
account.

Anyhow, you can't delete them individually. To erase them, you have to
clear the cache, usually by right-clicking on the icon for the news server
and selecting Empty Cache. This will wipe all posts for all the groups on
that server, and may take a little bit of time, depending. (I usually then
set the groups to download 10 messages and promptly refresh them to prevent
downloading a lot of messages I already read).
