How do you do this?

I've got an effect I've seen before but don't know how to replicate. I'll
describe the best I can and maybe you know how to make it happen:

As you watch the PowerPoint show the picture on the screen appears to be
slowly sliding across the screen -- revealing more of the photo at the
margin. Apparently the photo is larger than the work space so as it slides
from one side to the other more of the photo is seen. How's that done?

A couple of ways come to mind. If you have a panoramic size picture that is
wider than your slide size just put it on the right hand side and have it
"crawl in". If it isn't, put two rectangles on each side of the slide the
same color as the background and put them on top of the picture. That way
it appears as though it is "panning", but it really isn't. Glen has a
