How do you set advanced formatting across the board?

Sometimes I'd like to have mails sent by a particular person (e.g., my
boss) highlighted in bold red, so they stand out from other mails.
If there are more than one mail folder, then I'd have to run this
advanced formatting for each folder.

Is there any way to set advanced formatting across the board so that
all mails, regardless of their location, are affected by this setting?

Yes, that is possible if they are all still in the default Messages View.
Since this probably isn't the case it's eassier to create a new view that is
available to all mail and post folders and set all your folders to that view
(on first use).
