How do you stop automatic attempts to send alarge attachment email?

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel
Email Client: pop

OK, I pressed 'send' without checking the attachment was 35500Kb (which is kinda big) and every few minutes a progress window pops up with automatic attempts to send it...which keep failing, and so it starts all over again a few minutes later. Bit like Groundhog day! Any tips on how to stop this?

Select the message in the outbox and delete it.
