how does Entourage 2004 use OWA

Dr Q

Hello,

Please bear with me as this may be a bit confusing.

BACKGROUND:

I was able to successfully set up access to an exchange server on my
Powerbook wiht Entourage 2004. In entered the following information
into the exchange server set up:

Server: https://email.domain.com/exchange
User name: XXXX\xxxx

On Entourage 2004 this is working fine and was a snape to set up.

PROBLEM:

I would like to create a similar setup in Outlook 2003 and it is not a
snap. My question is how is Entourage able to access the server? And
more importanly, is it a feature unique to Entourage?

It is my hope that by figuring out how Entourage is able to access the
server, I may be able to figure out how to tweak the Outlook 2003
configuration

Just an additional question that might help me. Is Entourage perhaps
implementing RPC over HTTP when it allows to me to set up an exchange
server using the OWA address?

It is unique to Entourage, as Entourage uses the same network protocols
(WebDav) as OWA to talk to the exchange server. Outlook uses MAPI to talk to
the server, so needs to connect in a different way - not through https.

Thank you for the explanation. It's not the answer I was hoping for but
it sure helps me focus on looking for the right solution.

Entourage uses WebDAV over HTTP to access an Exchange server over the
Internet. However, Outlook does have the ability to do the same thing.
It doesn't use WebDAV over HTTP but rather RPC over HTTP. They are two
different connection protocols but effectively serve the same purpose.

For information about connecting Outlook to an Exchange server over the
Internet have a look at this page on Microsoft's website
<http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011402731033.aspx>.

Hope this helps! bill
