How many characters can I fit in an excel cell?

I'm having problems trying to fit a large amount of text into a merge cell
within excel although when I look at the cell in the format bar it shows but
when you view the workbook the last say 20 characters are missing the cell is
big enough heigh wise but it doesn't show. The only workaround is to make
the cell wider which I don't want to do
Any ideas?

Seems pretty straight forward to me. You make the box big enough to
display the text or you don't get to see it. Try pouring a 12oz soda
into a 8oz glass.
