How many instances can Excel handle in a Table Array for a Vlookup

Not so much an error but . . .

I am using a Vookup function to pull data off of another Excel file that is
46,500 rows long. It appears that the Vlookup function can't handle this
volume of data, it returns a #N/A. Does anyone know if there is a certain
number of rows that a vlookup can handle? I'm using Excel 2003.
