How to automate moving IMAP Sent Messages to my computer's Sent Items folder?

A

amkassir

I'd like to know how to set up Entourage to automatically move all the messages in my IMAP Sent Messages folder to the Sent Items folder under On My Computer. As I understand it, the messages in the IMAP Sent Messages folder are not on my computer; they're on the email server. (If I'm wrong about that, please correct me!) I need my sent email stored on my hard disk

The problem is, I've set up a rule to move these messages, but I have to manually activate it while viewing the IMAP Sent Messages folder, even though the rule is enabled. I'd like to have Entourage do this automatically and transparently. (I've figured out how to set up a rule in Entourage that automatically moves new mail messages in the IMAP Inbox to my own computer's Inbox, and Entourage does this move automatically and transparently, every time I check for new mail.

I'm using Entourage X for Mac OS X. Running OS X 10.3.3

Thanks.

I'd like to know how to set up Entourage to automatically move all the

Computer. As I understand it, the messages in the IMAP Sent Messages folder
are not on my computer; they're on the email server. (If I'm wrong about that,
please correct me!) I need my sent email stored on my hard disk.

The problem is, I've set up a rule to move these messages, but I have to
manually activate it while viewing the IMAP Sent Messages folder, even though
the rule is enabled. I'd like to have Entourage do this automatically and
transparently. (I've figured out how to set up a rule in Entourage that
automatically moves new mail messages in the IMAP Inbox to my own computer's
Inbox, and Entourage does this move automatically and transparently, every
time I check for new mail.)

I'm using Entourage X for Mac OS X. Running OS X 10.3.3.

Go to Accounts/Mail/that account/Edit/Advanced.

You'll see a checkbox at the top "Store my sent messages in " and a folder
name being the "Sent Messages" folder on the IMAP server. The simplest thing
is just to uncheck the checkbox.

Then go to Preferences/Mail & News/Compose, and make sure that the option to
"Store a copy of my sent messages in Sent Items folder" IS checked.

Now your sent messages will go to the local folder. Disable or delete the
Rule you made - it's not needed.

Of course you've now just removed he whole point of having an IMAP account.
Even with POP accounts you can leave received messages on the server and
download them to many computers. But only with IMAP can you access sent
messages from anywhere. Maybe you have only one computer so it doesn't
matter...
