how to automatically protect non-empty cells?

Hi:

I have several sheets that I use for accounting purposes. The contents
don't matter to my question - suffice it to say that each transaction I
record is a new row.

I'd like some way to automatically protect a row once I've entered all
the columns. Perhaps this would require that I make sure that no
columns are blank. At any rate, I (or somebody else) wouldn't have to
remember to protect a row once it has been entered.

So, if I make a mistake in one value of a row, I'd have to enter another
row to correct (ie. "offset") it, just as if I were using pen and ink.
This may sound backward but it is preferable to me as I could be sure
that no old transactions had been mistakenly altered.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.
