How to change linking to browser for Entourage?

When I first downloaded Entourage, the browser that is activated upon
clicking a link is Internet Explorer. I virtually never use it anymore,
in favor of Firefox. How do I change the settings, so that when I click
a link in Entourage, it opens the link in Firefox instead?

The preference to set the default email application in Panther is no longer
in System Preferences. Apple now requires you to make this setting in Safari
or Mail preferences. However, there are freeware applications you can use to
set preferences:

RCDefaultApp

IC-Switch

More Internet

MISFOX (MIssing Internet Settings for X)

See links for applications here:

I have (had) the same problem. My FF is (still) in the ~/Applications
folder.

I'm not sure if that is the reason.

But FF install instructions say to drag the app into the application
folder, where you have write permissions, so any needed updates kan be
applied. And that's the ~/Applications folder.

However, FF will still launch when clicking a link if it's running in
the background - in RAM.
However, there are freeware applications you can use to set preferences:

It should not be necessary to use a 3rd part app to make FF work
correctly. But there seems to be no information in FF help or on their
web site about this problem. Not very helpfull.

The applications folder is in the root directory and not the user
application folder. However, using a user application folder rarely causes
problem updating an application.

That's because your preference for default browser is FF. That's not a FF
problem.

What browser is launched is a system preference. I suggested a third party
application that is easier to use than opening Safari or Mail to change.

There are two Application folders on my system, one in the root
directory and another one in the user directory. The only Application
folder the user has write permissions for is the second one.

The problem is not one of updates, but of getting FF to launch when I
klik a link in say En'rage. FF only "launches" (that is, opens the link)
if FF is already running. Safari launched from disk.
That's because your preference for default browser is FF. That's not a FF
problem.

Then as my default browser is set to FF, why doesn't FF launch from
disk?

Well I have opened Safari and set the default browser to FF. No trouble
doing that. But FF still doesn't launch from disk.

And FF insists on launching Preview instead of Adobe Reader. I've set
Reader as the default app for browser in Reader's Prefs. But with the
Pref in FF, I only get Preview (default) as a choice in the "Open with"
dropdown menue.

Are you the admin for this computer? Normally, the user application folder
is created only by the user.

Try testing in a new User to rule out corruption in your User's folder.

I don't know. I was just guessing from your description that FF was the
default browser.

This is getting beyond the scope of this newsgroup. I suggest you join a
general Mac list to get this type of help. A very good list is the Mac-L
list.
