this?

Thanks.

Are you opening the message in it's own window? If yes, then use Command-W
to close.

I suggest you use the 3 Pane view instead.

I am new to Apple.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:

I also suggest you start with this page to learn some basics about
Entourage.

Thanks for your response.

Yes, I am opening the message in its own window. I guess I am used to this
workflow having just come from years of using Windows Outlook. I was
searching the site and discovered that I can get a script to perform the task
too. I was just curious that MS did not include this feature as an option.
Apple Mail has this feature.

Anyway, I am trying to use the pane view. I must say this will take a little
getting used to.

Wow... thanks for the resource links. I will certainly take a look at them

Best wishes

Changing platforms is difficult so stick with it and the next thing you know
it will all start to come naturally.

Learning a few basic shortcuts that work system wide is a first step.

Command-W close window
Option click on red button closes all open windows for that application
Command-N make new
Command-M will minimize a window

Start small and add as you get comfortable.

As will command-option-W in most applications

Thanks for your advice.

Although I have used the Pane view for only a day, I think I can get used to
it.

BTW, I was reading some of the articles in the links Diane provided. They are
very helpful. I read that Parallel and Fusion may be better alternatives
(despite the added cost, I think) than bootcamp. I have a macbook pro and use
it mainly for surfing and communication and some work. As for the latter, I
have the MS Office 2008. I also have PS Elements for photos.

Frankly, I don't want to install Win as this would defeat the purpose of
getting a Mac!

Also, I have been told by the shop I got it from that I don't need anti virus
s/w. Is this sound advice?

Best wishes

I haven't used virus software in years. You would only need it not to pass
on viruses to your PC friends. Read the thread on Tidbits for a well rounded
view.

FWIW, I often exchange e-mail and documents with Windows users, so I always
use anti-virus. I am currently using Intego VirusBarrier. I switched from
Symantec Anti-Virus because it caused frequent "kernel panics" on my wife's
iBook. YMMV.

Here is a link to the anti-virus tools available for Mac:
http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/security/antivirus

I will give serious consideration to switching to ClamAV when my Intego
subscription expires. Can't beat the price!

Thanks for your reply and the warning on Norton. I use it on all my PC
machines and was thinking of getting the PC/Mac AIO version. I will
definitely research on it before deciding.

I read (maybe malicious rumors) that free AntiVirus are often viruses in
themselves. Not sure if there is any truth in this though.

Still getting used to the pane view.

I must say I am tending towards a dual system ..... which will be sad.

Best wishes

It's true that "free anti-virus" programs that you find in pop-up windows
may be viruses, but ClamAV is a creditable freeware app.

Ed,

I am probably OT here but in Windows, I can copy photos on my iPhone to my
desktop very easily. Vista recognizes the Iphone as a drive. It is a simple
case of drag/cut/copy the image out.

I plugged my iPhone into my Macbk but it doesn't seem to allow me to do this.
Is this normal? If so, what suggestions do you have for extracting photos
without the need to sync my Iphone.

Thanks.

TC, I'm afraid this is not the right forum to ask this question. This forum
is only for questions about Entourage.

As for your question, please check in tech support at Apple.com. I know it's
easy to send photos from iPhone to Mobile Me and then download to your
computer, but I don't know how easily it can be done without a Mobile Me
account.
