How to copy downloaded messages from IMAP to POP account: it shouldn't be this difficult!

I have two e-mail accounts in Entourage for Mac OS X: a POP account
that is for my current company and an IMAP account from my old
company. How do I move a fully downloaded e-mail from the IMAP
account folders on my computer over to the POP account folders on my
computer? When I try to drag or copy an e-mail from the IMAP account
over to the POP account, despite the fact that the message is already
downloaded to my computer, Entourage attempts to access the old IMAP
exchange server and gets an error message, since I no longer have
access to the old company's IMAP Exchange server. if I even click on a
folder in my IMAP account, Entourage immediately tries to access the
old IMAP server and gets denied access. This is despite the fact that
under Advanced Account Settings, Synchronization Options, I clicked
the radio button for "Don't synchronize items to server."

It seems logical to me that I should be able to move a downloaded
message from an old IMAP folder into a local POP folder. However,
it's not working and I'm totally frustrated. Would appreciate any
help possible.

Best regards,

Hi John,

Open the Imap account on your Entourage. Create a folder on your Desktop and
select all the mails from Imap account and drag & drop the mails to the
folder which you have created on the Desktop.
After you copy all the mails to the folder, Open POP account and create a
folder in Entourage and try copying mails from the folder which is on the
desktop to the folder Which you have created in Entourage.

He already explained that as soon as he selects a message in the IMAP
account, Entourage tries to access the server. So he's never able to get any
further than that, it seems, and he won't be able to drag messages to the
Finder either.

I'm pretty sure I already answered this yesterday. First go to Entourage
menu and Work Offline. It's also a good idea to go to View menu and turn off
Preview Pane. Now you should be able to select and drag messages directly
from the IMAP account (cache) to local folders. Don't use the Move button:
that will try to access the server to delete the messages from there - just
drag them. I don't think you'll need the drag-to-desktop workaround either.

Paul and Prasanna,

Well, this has turned into a rather interesting experiment. I went to
the Entourage menu and chose Work Offline and turned off the preview
pane in the View menu. However, when I then tried to drag a message
from a local folder in the IMAP account to a local folder in the POP
account, I got a window asking me, "Do you want to connect to the
Internet to complete this action?" My three choices were work online,
cancel or connect. Needless to say, when I chose connect, I got an
error message saying I couldn't get access to the IMAP server.

So then I tried Prasanna's suggestion of dragging messages from an
IMAP folder to a desktop folder and then dragging them from the
desktop folder over into a POP account folder. This worked!

Sure seems like a kludge solution, but what the heck.

Many thanks for your help.

Best regards,

John
