How to create a smiley in email?

Bill

Periodically when I reply to a message and type :) my
symbol will be converted to a little yellow round smiley
picture. How can I enable this option at my end?

When you reply, you're replying in the same format in which the message was
sent - you can set Outlook to use that format by default.

Do not under any circumstances download/install Hotbar!

I thought so, but I cannot find where I can set Outlook
to convert my :) to the picture in Options or
elsewhere. I have searched the help menu with no luck,
It's probably obvious, but I need help finding it. I
would appreciate you or someone else advising me how I
can turn this option on in Outlook. Thank you, Bill

You need to use Word as the message editor in Outlook. You can also install
Outlook Quote-Fix, available here:

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the
Swen virus, all e-mails sent to my actual account will be deleted w/out
reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer
