I am thinking that it is defining sections (as in different sections) that
is
the best way to make Word deal with a complex page numbering system.
For instance, I have a paper with a very strict formatting requirement.
There is a Title page, then the first page which is to have the page number
bottom center (in the footer), then the rest of the paper (through about 20)
are to be numbered top right (in the header).
The Bibliography is to have page numbers bottom right (in the footer) with
the last page to say "20 of 20" as an example.
I have found no automatic way of doing this. When I try to insert Break,
then odd page, it throws in a blank page. I guess I can deal with that, but
even though I have inserted sections, when I get to the last page I am
unable
to make it say "20 of 20". If I manually type that in, it puts that same
"20 of
20" on every page. This is maddening!!! Is there a word processor program
that deals with page numbers in a more intuitive way than Word??
If not, could someone tell me how to delete a section with better
description than
the help instructions. They simply say to highlight section break and
delete. How
do I highlight section break??? What exactly and in what view do I
highlight it?
I'm sorry to sound aggravated. I have spent many hours trying to understand
this.
Each change in the page numbering affects more than one section. I am ready
to
give up and hunt for my old typewriter.
Thanks
