how to edit message list?

Hi,

I chose to read my mail with the 'Preview pane to Right' option turned on.

I may be missing something really basic, but I wish to edit out the icons
available in the message list pane, such as the 'online status' icon etc,.

I can do this when in the 'below list' preview pane by unchecking these
options in the right-click list that shows from the column headers - however
this does not show up when the pane is to the right.

any ideas or advice on how to achieve this would be appreciated
