I found the answer in MS Windows XP planin & simple.
This, to my knowledge is the only book out there that
tells you exactly how to do it. pages 118 and 119.

Your scanner must have a fax facility to use telephony programs built into XP. If not then scan the document normally and save as pdf format (assuming you have Adobe Acrobat full version -- NOT READER) and email this to whoever is the recipient(s).

If you are using WordPerfect Office 12 then you can save as pdf format without any problems as it includes the pdf distiller or somettng similar.
