How to force a Default sort for a validation list

I have setup a validation list from a defined name in a spreadsheet.

The list originally was displayed in an alphabetic sort from A-Z.....at some
point this was reversed and now sorts from Z-A.....

Is there anyway to reverse this back to the default sort order....I have
tried removing the validation list and re-addiing it without success.
