How to get outlook working

A

I am using Outlook 2000.
Is there a difference between outlook and outlook express?
How do get this started so that I can send and receive e-mail from there?
When I try to use outlook express I get the following message.

"The host 'smtp' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly. Account: 'http', Server: 'smtp', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D".

I do not know how to set this up properly. AOL is my primary connection to
the internet and e-mail now. What do I have to do to make this work?

Well, "smtp" is not a valid hostname for your e-mail provider's SMTP server.
Put whatever IP name your e-mail provider says to use.

By the way, since you are now PAYING for AOL's service, why aren't you
asking THEM how to use OE or Outlook to get your e-mails? AOL used to be a
proprietary protocol for e-mail so you got stuck using their stupid e-mail
programs, but they added IMAP and SMTP servers about a year ago. Have you
actually hunted through their help pages looking for setup information? I
don't have AOL but even I can Google around to find that you can enter the
keyphrase "Open Mail Access" or read
