How to get rid of Grid lines in "Print View"

For some reason, whenever we start MS Word, the new document comes up with
tiny grid lines on the screen. They go away when we switch out of "Print
View" but come back when we return. We never used to see these but now it is
always there. What turned these on and how do I get rid of them (for good!)
-- my family hates this... Thanks.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you are describing what is seen if you
enable the Text boundaries option (Tools > Options... | Select View tab --->
3rd section "Print and web layout options").
