How to import Mac Mail into Entourage v.X?

Hello All,

I'm a new 'switcher', a Mac newbie, and the proud owner of a 15"
Powerbook.

I have been using Mac Mail. Now I have Office:Mac v.X installed. I
don't see a way to import Account Settings, Folders and Rules from
Mail. Is there a utility that will do this?

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,
you'll need to use your Office installer disk to do this. You can find the
instructions here:
http://www.entourage.mvps.org/import_export/another.html
I remember that this import method did not work for me when I was still
using Entourage v.X (as a matter of fact, the import into Entourage 2004
doesn't work properly, either), so if the method described on the above
website does not work, try the following method to get your e-mail into
Entourage:
for some people on this newsgroup (including myself), the import from Mail
is not working correctly. In my case, Entourage would import only Mail
folders I'd created myself, but not the regular ones such as my different
inboxes or sent items. There's a work-around, however: simply drag the inbox
folders (or any other folder, for that matter) individually from Mail to
your desktop, and they should be exported as .mbox files. You can drag these
.mbox files into your e-mail folder pane in Entourage, and they should be
imported correctly.

Note, however, that this method does not transfer any rules or account
settings.

Hey Michael,

Thanks for the advice. I tried the drag and drop method with one folder
and couldn't get it to work. The system wouldn't allow me to drop the
folder anywhere on the Entourage window. I'll try again. I'll give the
link a try too.

Thank-you!

Hello again.
Just to clarify: drag and drop an inbox folder (or any other folder) from
Mail to the desktop. Make sure it's got the .mbox extension; if it doesn't,
you can always add it. The file should now have a black mailbox icon. You
can drag this file into the folder hierarchy pane o the Entourage mail
window, i.e. the part of the screen where you can see "Inbox", "Outbox",
etc. This should work.
