How to make a template project?

I have Office 2004. I created a "template project" (listed all of the tasks
that I typically need for every project.)

Then I created a new project (#1) and imported the tasks from my template
project. I inserted the due dates and notes for each task that was needed
for that particular project.

But... AAARGH!! All of the tasks in my template project then had the same
due dates as (#1) -- so when I wanted to insert the information for a new
project (#2) I then changed the dates for #1 and for the template. Yikes.

Obviously this is not the way to do it! Is there any way to make a template
project so that I do not have to re-enter (and remember) what all of the
tasks are for every single project I have?
