How to manually set up video codecs for Windows Powerpoint 2003?

i can't seem to be able to watch an avi movie on powerpoint even though i got
te codecs and it works on windows movie player 9 series

This gets a bit difficult to explain so I wrote a tutorial on the subject.

What I believe you see happening is that while you may have the correct
codec installed on the PC, it is not compatible with the Windows MCI player
(used internally by PowerPoint). Two possible solutions, 1.) find a more
compatible version of the codec, 2.) re-encode the video to format more
compatible with PowerPoint. (This is what PFCMedia and PFCPro do.)
