How to migrate from OS X Mail app to Entourage

S

Steve Klarer

Entourage seems able to import mail from just about everything except
Mac OS X mail. I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me some pointers
on how to make the switch.

Thanks,

on how to make the switch.

It would be useful if you would tell us which version of Entourage you have,
exactly.

1) If you have Entourage 2004, it _does_ import from Mail. File/Import/From
a program/Apple Mail.

2) If you have Entourage X, (and do not have a French or German version of
Office), insert your Office v. X CD. Double-click the Value Pack Installer
and include Import from Mail script.

3) In Microsoft Office X folder, you'll now find an Import from Mail applet
in your Utilities subfolder. Check the version.

4) If your Office CD was v10.1.2 or later, Import from Mail will be v10.1.1.
If it's an earlier version than that, you need to download the Office 10.1.6
"Security Update" (which you should do anyway). Run it _even if you have
previously applied an Office Updater 10.1.2 or later before_. You need to
run it again to update the applet now.

Now double-click the Import from Mail applet.

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.

In addition, you may want to bring your addresses over from AddressBook. It
took me a while before I realized that it was simply a matter of dragging
and dropping addresses from AddressBook onto the Contacts pane in Entourage.

That does work for some fields. Beware that not all fields will transfer
correctly using this method. For a transfer that preserves more
information, use Paul Berkowitz's "Sync Entourage-Address Book" script. It
is not free, but it does include a free trial period.

Thanks to everyone who replied to this message. I just got home from
the Thanksgiving trip to visit the family. I'll try out the various
suggestions once I get caught up with work this week.

Thanks again,
Steve
