How to move messages by typing first few letters in Ent. X

Lindsay

Hi. I'm new to Entourage X (Panther) and Entourage X and can't seem to
be able to move messages from my Inbox to my other folders the way I
used to in OS 9.2 and Entourage 2001. What I used to do was click on
the "Move" drop down menu, select "move to folder....", and when the
window with my (many!) folders came up, I'd type in the first few letters
of the folder where I wanted to file the message, and the window would
scroll down to that folder. Is this possible somehow in Entourage X? I
looked through the Preferences and couldn't seem to find anything
appropriate.

Thanks!

I thought that problem, that was apparent in the first incarnations of
office x, was fixed in one of the later updates?

Make sure you have installed all the MS updates to get your office version
up to 10.1.5, then try it again.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that I already have Ofc 10.1.5 installed,
I'm still encountering the same problem. I noticed that Entourage is
only version 10.1.4, though; is that odd, or are some of the elements of
the Ofc suite numbered differently via the same upgrade?

If you have any additional ideas about a fix, I'd welcome them!

Yes, some elements are numbered differently. The actual entourage app wasn't
modified during ther update from 10.1.4 to 10.1.5 although some support
files were. This is why you see the different version numbers.

I can't help any more, I'm afraid - it's working fine on my system.

What OS & Office language bersions are you running?

I'm using OS 10.3.2 in English as the primary language, and Japanese as
secondary.

Incidentally, I'm also having difficulty posting replies directly to your
message (on the site, not through email); I keep getting error messages
about the "reference" line that includes your information (when I use
Safari), and the message won't post at all when I press "Send" in IE 5.2.
So I'm posting in response to my own previous message instead.

Any particular reason why you don't try in Entourage itself? You get a much
quicker response time, aside from avoiding strange problems like that.

In your Folder pane, you'll see an icon for "Microsoft News Server". Click
on it. You'll probably get a question - "Do you want to download all
newsgroup listings?" Click Yes. (Or click the Update button in the tool bar
if you don't get asked.) in the QuickFilter text box at top right, type
'mac' or 'mac.office' (no quotes). In the results, select

microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage

and other other newsgroups that take your fancy (command-click to select
more than one). Then click Subscribe button. (Before you do this you could
go to Tool/Accounts/News and Edit this news sever and specify on the Options
page to [not] download 300 messages but some less intense figure.) Now the
newsgroup(s) also appear in the Folder pane, within the Microsoft News
Server icon set-up. Click on it and you'll see all the current messages,
including your own, in the familiar sequences you get for mail, Click on a
message to download and read it. Send new message sand replies in the same
way you do mail. You'll see your own message within one minute if you click
away then back. Everything will be a lot quicker.
