How to remove a generated bold underline from Word 2002 or Word 20

Somehow I generated this monster and it will not go away. Everything I try
to delete it just moves it around.

Also I deleted the crazy symbol that would have let me delete the monster
when it was first generated. I did this because it was always in the way.
Now I want it back.

Please help me; this is driving me nuts!!
