How to set up a 2nd unique e-mail adress???

M

marek

I operate 2 separate businesses. Don't want to continually switch
between 2 e-mail accounts to check & send meassages.

address (a) [email protected]
address (b) [email protected]

They are hosted on separate ISP's. (a) is based in the US with
Geocities and (b) is based in UK with someone else.

e-maill address (a) has messages from e-mail address (b) automatically
forwarded to it.

I now want to send a new message from account (a) so that it would
appear as if it came from account (b).

I have tried setting up a new identity but it doesn't allow the new
address for that account.

Using Entourage 10.1.4

Any suggestions?

HI,
I now want to send a new message from account (a) so that it would
appear as if it came from account (b).

I have tried setting up a new identity but it doesn't allow the new
address for that account.

What do you mean it doesn't allow it ?? I had no problem creating a
bogus account with the return address of my choice, entering no POP
server (but of course, my local SMTP) and using it to send e-mails. All
you have to do is dismiss the warning that reminds you that you haven't
entered a proper POP server,

Using Entourage 10.1.4

You should update... The current version is 10.1.6 as far as I remember

Error

mail could not be sent using the account "xyz"

Explanation

Address does not belong to a valid Business Mail user

I'm obviously doing something wrong & no doubt missing a simple detail.

That might be a restriction on your local SMTP server.
A workaround could be to activate Postfix on your Mac to use it as your
own SMTP. There are two limitations though: some networks brlock port 25
preventing you from sending e-mails from your Mac, and some (few right
now but who knows about tomorrow) won;t accept e-mails coming from a
server that doesn't have a name that properly reverses on it's IP in the
DNS.

If you want to give it a try, there is a "how-to" here:

Can't install Postfix "Link Installer" as I'm not running Tiger.

The page also has instructions for tunning Postfix under Panther.
If you are running Pre-10.3 MacOS X, you can use Sendmail instead (a bit
tedious though) or download and install Postfix for these systems as
well,
