How to set up automatic purging of items marked for deletion?

I would like messages in my IMAP folders to be purged automatically when I
press delete button.
Is that possible to achieve?

At least I would like them to disappear from the message list.

you can't purge them on delete but you can use a view that hides deleted
items. look on the view menu or turn on the advanced toolbar to see the
views selector.

1.. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
2.. Select the Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting check box.
3.. If you want, turn off notification before automatically emptying the
Deleted Items folder.

This won't work for the OP - he wants the Del key to delete IMAP items, not
mark them as deleted.
