How to setup Office SPS 2003 E-Mail server?

In my company, we have setup an E-Mail server (Exchange 2003), but due to
company policy we can't enable SMTP service, either for internal (Intranet)
or external (Internet) use.
Now, I have a question: I when to configure E-Mail server in SharePoint
Portal Server 2003 central management, but it seems only SMTP can set to this
E-Mail server, how can I to solve this problem to fit my company situation
(use Exchange not SMTP). Thanks in advanance for any suggestion or comments.
