How to stop autoshape leaders from jumping around

I have used leader callouts a lot in the past, Word 2003 acts differently.
I use the draw callout command in the autoshape button, and pick the start point and then the end of the leader.
Word then proceeds to draw a generic leader attached to a little text box. I fill in the text box and the darn leader
start changes as the text box expands itself.
It should use the points I specified for the leader and allow me to change the text box size manually...
This is totally different than before and just whacko. Can I make it like before?
