Hi, ahardien;
You probably have call waiting.
You can either:
1. Cancel the call waiting service provided by your phone company.
2. If you want to keep call waiting, but not have it interrupt your online
session, close your dial-up connection and follow the instructions that apply
to your system:
WINDOWS 98, ME
Click on My Computer, Control Panel, Modems, and Dialing Properties.
Here, CHECK the box marked “To disable call waiting†and put *70 in the box
on the right.
WINDOWS XP
Click on Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and under
See Also, click Phone and Modem Options, click Edit dialing location, CHECK
the box marked “To disable call waiting†and put *70 in the box on the right.
AMERICA ONLINE
Start AOL, but do not sign on. Click on Setup, Edit Numbers, and highlight
each access number, click on Edit and CHECK the box marked Dial *70 to
disable call waiting.
APPLE COMPUTERS
Click on the apple icon, Control Panel, and Remote Access. Then enter *70
into the beginning of the phone number dialog box.
3. If your current setup interrupts your online session, but does not allow
you to succesfully answer the incoming phone call, you might consider using
the call waiting service together with a Catch-A-Call device:

This is superfluous if you have a V.92 modem and V.92 service from your ISP,
but if not, it keeps your online session from causing you to miss phone
calls. Been using one for nearly a year now, and it works well. Also, with
this, if you choose not to answer the call, your web use is not interrupted.
Hope this helps.
Ian.
