How to store moderate amount of text (~1000 bytes) a la PPT custom doc property?

I have a requirement to store a variable amount of text - normally
around 150 words, but perhaps as many as 500 - as a custom document
property. I'm bumping up against some sort of limit on storing strings

Look at tags. You can store a presentation tag, slide tag and shape tag. The
number of tags on a shape is very high and the storage capacity is equally
high. It remains hidden from the average user and you need to write/read
them programmatically.

Thanks, Chirag/Shyam. Tags fill the bill perfectly - work like a
champ, and I won't have to go through messy process of breaking down
long hunks of text into 255-byte chunks.

Just as a matter of curiosity, what are the essential differences
between custom document properties and presentaion tags? I guess the
prooerties have additional capability, such as linkage to content, etc?
Is there a source someplac that does a comparison of the two
techniques?

Tags are stored within the main document itself where as the custom
properties are stored in a secondary area of the document. The benefit of
storing in custom properties is that you can access these properties
programtically from another application without the next for PowerPoint
whereas to access tags you will need to have PowerPoint installed or would
need to know the binary format of PowerPoint. Custom properties have
additional benefits like you mentioned below and also they have a UI which
makes them easily accessible. The major benefit of tags are that they have
not size restriction. They tags can be kept hidden from the casual users.
