How to ? Tab Stops

S

SylvsPst

While using custom tab stops to right align text opposite a graphic the tab
stop collapsed and aligned my text left, alongside the graphic.
This problem happens consistently in both Microsoft Office 2002 and 2003.
Is there a hot fix for it? If so where can I download it?

I don't know what you mean by "the tab stop collapsed" and I am not really
sure what you are doing, but I doubt that tab stops are the correct thing to
be using. More likely that you should be using a right aligned paragraph.

Maybe the picture isn't inline?
In that case, it will mess up your left margin, and all tab stops will move to
the right.

There is an issue in most recent versions of Word where indents and tabs in
text placed to the right of wrapped graphics and text boxes do not work
properly. See, for example, "WD2000: Hanging Indent Lost When Text Wraps to
Right Side of Square Wrapped Object" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209633. Although I don't find a
comparable KB article for other versions, I know this was true for most
users in Word 97, and it is still true in Word 2003 (and applies to left
indents as well as hanging indents).

For some reason I was "charmed" in Word 97 and had no problem with this. In
Word 2002, the text displayed incorrectly in Print Layout view and Print
Preview but printed correctly (which was frustrating, to say the least). In
Word 2003, it just plain doesn't work at all. Ironically, if you use Word's
built-in bullets or numbering (applied with the Bullets or Numbering
button), this does work. <sigh>
