I have checked HTML in the News and Preferences box and memos still
come in text only format. Now what? I have a Power MAC 4, MAC OS
10.3.9. AARGH!

That's because some people prefer to send plain text emails, because
with plain text anyone reading the message can view them in whatever
fonts *they* happen to like. When you send HTML emails to others, they
are forced to read the messages in whatever font you used to create
them. The problem is not all of us like the same fonts as you. ARRRRGH,
indeed! ; ) Please do the rest of the world a big favor and set your
preferences back to plain text so we can read your emails in *our*
preferred font / size / style rather than *yours*!

You can set options to send mail, but not what you receive. You can however,
click on the HTML button to change HTML to plain text but not the other way
around.

Set Preferences: Entourage -> General Preferences under the "Fonts" tab

Fonts can be set for plain text and HTML. The settings for plain text only
affect what YOU see and not what the sender receives. The receiver will see
the messages with THEIR preferences. When setting plain text, choose what
you like. This is a great feature, especially if you like larger fonts for
easy viewing. However, the font and size you choose for "HTML messages
(proportional)" do reflect the default font for outgoing HTML mail and is
what the recipient will see.

HTML font size can sometimes be misinterpreted when sent from a Mac to PC.
This has been improved with the latest updates to Office X and 2004, but can
still cause problems. This is why plain text is preferred.

It's possible they were sent in plain text. Open a message and under View in
the menu bar, select Source.

It should tell you if the message was sent in HTML.
