HTML numbers lists -- adding lines without interupting thenumbering sequence

John B.

I'm using Entourage's HTML numbers lists.

Works great. But how do I add blank lines between numbered items WITHOUT
causing the numbering to start over at 1.

I've done this by accident, and I find this style makes a much more legible
list ... but I don't know how to cause it to happen.

???

Thanks!

I'm using Entourage's HTML numbered lists . It work greats for certain
communications I'm engaged in.

But there's one small problem. (I've composed this message in HTML to help
illustrate.)

I can't figure out how to add blank lines between numbered items WITHOUT
causing restarting the numbering.

I've accomplished this by accident numerous times (see the list below), and
I find that doing so produces a list that's far more legible.

... but I don't know how to recreate this effect intentionally.

Entourage's Help file doesn't address the issue ... and examining the source
file gave me no insight. So I looked in Word's Help file.

Word's help says to use the Format/BulletsAndNumbering, and check "Continue
previous list" in the BulletsAndNumbering dialog. But this give
unpredictable results. Here's what works best for me in Word. Select the
text you want numbered, select the numbering style in
Format/BulletsAndNumbering. This works even across line breaks without fail.

Unfortunately there's no option like this in like that in Entourage's format
menu. And Word's lists renumber when pasted into Entourage! Where's your
consistent MS interface when you need it?

_______ Here's an example of what I'm trying to accomplish (Comments in
green) ________

1. Level one; Item one
1. Level two; item one 2. Level one; item two
1. Level two; item one
2. Level two; item one
1. Level two; Item three <--- Item three appears after line breaks!
1. Level two; Item four
2. Level two; Item five 1. Level one; item three:
1. Level two; item one
2. Level two; item one
2. Level one; item four

Seems like it ought to be easy to insert "uninterupting" lines.

Any insights?

You can't. Sorry.

If you read my email in HTML format you'll notice that I did.

This is beyond Entourage. It can only deal with simple lists. Even Word has
a lot of trouble with hierarchal lists, but I believe MS is working on
those in Word. Don't count on anything fancier done directly in Entourage. I
agree it would be nice if you could send it somehow from Word with the
formatting intact. Send a Feedback request from the Help menu of either app
- this sort of Office integration is indeed the sort of thing MS might well
favor for a later release, if there's a demand for it.
