Hyperlink error message

Good afternoon.

I am attempting to hyperlink a cell in Excel to a Word document. I created a
bookmark in Word and am trying to access it from the Insert Hyperlink dialog
box in Excel. When I choose the Word file name and click on Bookmark to pick
the bookmark, I get the following error message "Microsoft Excel could not
open this file or could not parse a file of this type."

Any help in finding a remedy for this error message would be appreciated.
