Hi All,
I wonder if I could bother you all with something strange but interesting I
discovered yesterday, regarding a word document.
As I am in an Admin’ position, I regularly provide procedures and
information files for users on various projects, these files need updating on
a regular basis and therefore have to be write protected but read enabled. I
used the word (2000) “password to modify†utility. Until now it has proved a
useful procedure.
Unfortunately I discovered that when I send an email with a shortcut to the
document (MS outlook, HTML) it opened up the document without any prompting
for a password, I tested it on the desktop shortcut and that was fine, it
asked for the password to modify.
I am worried because we have documents and spreadsheet all over our network
on different projects with a modify password and if this is a PROBLEM we will
need to go and change every single one of these documents. AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!
I just wonder if its something to do with the shortcut in HTML, hopefully it
can be fixed easily; alternatively we just don’t let the “users†know about
this shortcut, as you are probably aware some users are good players and some
bad.
It’s the latter I’m worried about. Is there any chance ANYONE could shed
some light on this?
many thanks,
