Hyperlinks in email messages

When I recommend a website address in the body of an email shouldn't that web address be hyperlinked the way it would be in Microsoft Word? Is there something I can do to enable this?

I just got my iMac last week and using Entourage. The hyperlink is there
after you send it. Look in the sent folder.

Thanks, George, I checked my sent folder and there’s still no link. I wonder if it’s because I’m running Entourage from 2004 (updated though). I’d be grateful for any other ideas.

You are not going to get words that are hyperlinks in Entourage. You can
create them in Word. Use Word 2004 to compose your e-mail message, since you
can easily create hyperlinks in that program (select some text, then hit
Cmd+K). If Entourage is configured as your default e-mail client, you can,
when you're done, go to File>Send To>Mail Recipient (as HTML) (this is still
in Word, by the way). The downside to this method is that once the document
has been passed on to Entourage, you can no longer modify it, or add
attachments.

When you compose a message the links like www.apple.com do not appear
active, but they are. Just save the message as a draft and you will then see
the active links.

Enclose the URL with < and > viz: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/> so that
if the URL wraps over more than one line, it will still work when it gets
there. Don't forget to format with the http:// prefix.

There are scripts to insert a browser URL into an Entourage message that is
very handy.

Diane,

You are an MVP. Thanks.

It makes me wonder if the 2008 version of Entourage creates hyperlinks automatically.

Thanks again.

Gabby

Sorry I wasn't clear. This feature is not included in Entourage 2008.

I am flabbergasted by the lack of hyperlinking ability in entourage. What a total waste of money.

I'm looking for this as well. Tried 'Make Hyperlinks X' which failed
to work with Entourage 2008 v12.0.0.

Anyone get it to work?

John

It works in Entourage 2004. But as Diane Ross mentioned way back in February, what you have to do is use <http://www>. If you want to make sure the hyperlinked text wraps onto the line below, add these doohickeys before and after: < and >

Thanks Diane Ross for your explanations. I am absolutely flabbergasted that Entourage does not create links to websites or email addresses when these are typed into the body of an email. How could Microsoft have gone so soft in the head as to do this? Diane, do you think there will be an Entourage upgrade to correct this? Does Microsoft read these forums and take action? I'm sure many others also need this facility rather than some of the waste-of-time stuff that has been put into Entourage.

Pierre.

Generally speaking, major changes like this are not added as updates. Maybe
in the next release of Office.

MSFT does follow the forums, but the best way to make your wishes known is
to send feedback.

When working in Office, you can use the ³Send Feedback² option under the
Help menu in all of the Office applications.

I came to this forum for the 1st time for the same reason... Diane, if there is any way that you can let people in charge of updates/improvements know about this issue with hyperlinks, it would be greatly appreciated (I had tried the feedback without success)...

So may I join the many other people (and the many more who did not find this forum) to voice my disappointment. I wanted to do links to words like in "click here" ... :-(

Office 2008... it thought that it would be MORE not less...

They know. It's just not an instant result that your feedback was seen and
reported. The people that decide what gets included often seem to have
nothing to do with the operation of the software and more with marketing
buzz. Just look at the colors used by Mactopia for this interface. Whoever
thought that orange text was easy to read need to reexamine the choice. Buy
hey, it looks cool if all you do is look at the page and not try to read it.

How ironic... the box I'm typing in right now is titled:

"Message: (no HTML)"

First of all, thank you Diane Ross. Without your insight we'd really be in the dark. Your comments have surely saved me a bunch of agonizing wasted time.

I've owned Macintosh computers for 20 years. However, I've been using Windows PCs for business with MS Office for years. I finally decided to make the switch to Mac for business and I figured MS Office for Mac would suit me fine. Entourage is a piece of crap compared to Outlook. It doesn't even sync with my iPhone accurately (categories become useless, the notes field loses return carriages, etc.) Now really, how is that the Apple iPhone syncs easier and more accurately with a PC than it does an Apple Macintosh?

And what's the deal with only displaying one line of the "notes" field in the contact summary? The only way I can figure out how to see all the "notes" for a given contact is to open the contact and select the "other' tab. WTF?

I'm so disappointed with Entourage that I'm thinking of loading XP into Boot Camp and using Office for XP instead.

Hey Microsoft... it's 2008! Get with the program! Hyperlinking? Come on. I didn't pay $400 to dumb down my email and contact manager.

I understand it works great. What a pity though that a user has to resort to
this option.

OK, broken record here:
